In 1952 an idea to establish an National Textile Institute was emerged. Punjab Government provided 62 Acres area to establish this institute in Faisalabad. President Ayub Khan laid its foundation in 1959 and in 1965 Textile University got affiliated with UET, Lahore and its name changed to National College of Textile Engineering. On November 15, 2002, this college upgraded to a university and its name changed to National Textile University.

Eligibility Criteria
Following is the general eligibility criteria for NTU Admissions 2021
Undergraduate Programs
At least 60% marks in the following:
- F.Sc (Pre Engineering)
- Three A-Level (Physics, Chemistry, Math) and Eight O-Levels
- DAE (in the relevant field)
- Associate Degree Program (Physics, Math)

Masters or PhD program
- Graduate degree like, BS Textile Engineering or equivalent degree for masters program in textile engineering
- Minimum CGPA 2.0/4.0 or 3.0/5.0 in semester system or 60% marks in annual/term system
- NTU GAT test
Merit Calculation
Admission merit list will be prepared according to the following criteria.
For Masters or PhD Programs
- BS MARKS 60% weightage
- NTU (GAT) SCORE General 30%weightage
- Interview 10%weightage
Foe Undergeraduate Programs

Yes, NTU provides hostel facilities to facilitate students from other cities. Thi service is paid. The first semester hostel charges are Rs. 19,500/- while for the rest of semesters, hostel charges are Rs. 14,500. Hostel students are exempt from transportation charges.
