In 1975 the biggest government sector University of  Multan was established by the name of Multan University. To honor the Sufi saint Bahauddin Zakariya it was renamed as ‘Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan’. It is 10 kilometres away from Multan City. The main campus of Bahauddin Zakariya University is stretched over an area of 960 acres.

According to HEC ranking, 2016 BZU in the general category is#9. According to QS world ranking 2022, Bahauddin Zakariya University in the whole world is ranked amongst the top 1200 universities. Bahauddin Zakariya University is recognized by HEC and its all programs are approved by relevant councils.
